Ugh!Not recommended. It starts with a candid description of 1950s Neapolitan poverty, selfishness, cruelty, corruption, superstition, and despair. So far, not bad,but It then moves to a long, incoherent, nearly indecipherable history of postwar Neapolitan intellectual squabbles with excessive name dropping. If you want to talk someone out of a visit to Italy, have them read this book.No wonder the author was exiled from her native city. An interesting read but I found myself skimming the ending where she detailed Italian writers from mid century I wasnt familiar with....On a side note, how many times can they state in recommending this book that it was an inspiration for Elena Ferrante? Anna Maria Ortese must be turning in her grave Needed book for quick read for book club quality fine but after adding in mailing costs, minimal savings over buying new.

En tant qu’auteur connu, certains de ses livres fascinent les lecteurs, comme dans le livre Neapolitan Chronicles , qui est l’un des lecteurs les plus recherchés Ana Maria Ortese auteurs dans le monde.
