The Cowboy Father by Linda Ford 4 STARSThe Cowboy Father follows after The Cowboy Tutor also by Linda Ford. Each book stands alone but I like seeing the characters from one story in a nother Each book tells the story of one of the sisters. In the town of Golden Prairie, Alberta in 1933 they are in the depression and drought times are hard Louisa Morgan s family is struggling finacelly after the death of her father 4 years ago Louisa feels bad because a lot of medical bills are from her Louisa wants to work to help pay them but their is a lot of people out of work Louisa finds a job for two months tutoring a little girl who broke her leg and is in full body cast.Emmet Hamilton has moved back home with his aunt when his daughter broke her leg He is a widower and had hired someone at his ranch to watchEllie but she left her alone Emmet found his daughter with a broken leg after she fell out of a tree Emmet feels guilty that he could not prevent hisEllie from being hurt.Ellie is a 7 year old tomboy and hates being trapped in bed and does not want to do homework Ellie is spoiled by her father andd knows how to get what she wants most of the time She does not want to have Louisa tutor her.Auntie May never had children but when Emmet s parents were killed in an accident she took him and raised him She has a lot of cats She is glad that Emmet and Ellie are staying with her while Ellie heals.Madge is Louisa s younger sister and her story is told in Tutor Cowboy She is a new bride.Judd is married to Madge and has bought a farm near his in laws.Louisa feels she will never marry because of all her illness she can never have children She is heart broken over the fact for her dream of having children is strong.Emmet has problems that he could not protect his parents , his wife from dying Now he did not prevent Ellie s accident so he does not want to care for anyone else he might fail to protect.I enjoyed this story It has some heartbreaks but they learn to trust in God This book does have some scriptures and no sex, foul langage and leaves you feeling good and wanting to see is Louisa s youngest sister gets her own story to.I was lent this book to read in exchange for honest review from Netgalley.02 07 2012 Pub Harlequin Love Inspired Historical

Louise is looking for a job She was very sick and now is hoping to help pay the medical bills by getting a job She is also dealing with the news that she can not have children because of the illness she had The job she ends up getting is to tutor a young girl who has a broken leg and can not going to school Also the girls father is quite handsome and kind and Louise starts to have feeling for him even though she does not think any man would want her because she can not have kids Emmet wants to only keep his little girl safe and he feels like he has failed When the new tutor upsets her he is ready to send her on her way but over time he comes to care for her Will Emmet be able to over come things from his past to fall in love again and can Louise see her worth even if she can not have kids Read this book to find out This book was okay but I did not love it.What I liked I like the time period and the family It is interesting to read how hard people had to work during this time period to keep food on the table and a roof on their head I felt the characters where believable and I hoped things would work out for them. What I did not like As much as I like the characters I did not feel like I connected with them In the first book Louise came across very fragile almost like she could barely walk and might never be healthy enough to get a job etc So when in this book she was healthy except for not being able to have kids she just did not even feel like the same character from the first book Emmet and his daughter where okay but he just up and left his ranch because he daughter had broken her leg which seemed like a bit of a stretch to be able to leave it that long His daughter started out a spoiled brat but slowly got better but I just did not like her that much and I felt the plot was a little week Over all it was an okay book to read but I found the short novella after it was interesting then the main story I probably will read the third book when it comes out because I am curious about the youngest sister but this is not a series I am in love with.

During the Depression jobs were scarce, so when Louisa Morgan is offered a job tutoring Ellie Hamilton, who is confined to bed in a body cast while she recovers from a broken leg, Louisa sees it as a way to earn some money to help contribute to her families finances Besides she can certainly relate to being sick since she had suffered pneumonia twice as well as a bout of influenza.Because of the toll the sickness took on her body she is unable to bear children and has decided that she will never marry.Emmet Hamilton lost his wife a few years ago and is now a single father to Ellie When Ellie breaks her leg he moves her to his aunts house in town and decides she needs a tutor He carries some issues from his past that causes him to believe that he will never fall in love again but when he meets Louisa her wonderful disposition draws him to her Can he overcome the burdens that he carries from the past to open his heart again While it took me several chapters to really become immersed in this story once it did I found myself unable to put it down I found the characters quite believable and Louisa s positive attitude was wonderful.I really wasn t sure that I was going to like the character of Ellie because she seemed like a spoiled little girl but eventually was won over and actually understood why she acted the way she did I thought it was so nice that she found a friend in Leila, and actually how things worked out for Leila in the end. While this story was a bit predictable overall I really enjoyed it I found it interesting to read about how the depression affected Alberta. Not only did I enjoy watching the relationship develop between Louisa and Emmet but also how Louisa found what her heart longed for.Fans of inspirational historical romance will surely enjoy reading this story.A complimentary copy of this book was provided by Netgalley and the publisher in exchange for an honest review.

The Cowboy Father is a very sweet love story It takes place during the depression in Alberta, Canada While the plot is something we ve seen before, the characters are so real that it is easily overlooked.Your first impression of Emmet s daughter, Ellie, is not a good one She s in a body cast after a fall from a tree, breaks her leg I m not sure why a broken leg would require a body cast, but I m going to assume Ms Ford did her research and that this is correct She is the most stubborn obnoxious child, I ve ever read about However, she is a motherless little girl and she s cooped up in a house with nothing to do while she recovers, so her misbehavior is almost understandable.Louisa is totally sweet and hardworking However the diagnosis of her barrenness after a long illness is taking over her life In a way, she comes across as feeling sorry for herself No one could love her because she couldn t have a baby The same is true for Emmet He lets what he feels are failures from his past dictate his future The reason for his guilt is revealed toward the end of the story, and deals with the death of his parents I don t want to spoil the story for any of you, but I will say, when you read it, you will cry I know I did. This two broken people are definitely suited for each other, but it takes a lot to get them together Oh and not to worry, there s another child for both Louisa and Emmet, but you ll have to read the book to find out

Firstly thanks to Netgalley for my review copy This is the second in the series of three brides for three cowboys This time the story is about Louisa who was the child that was sick and often protected because of her illnesses She gets a job as tutor for Ellie who is Emmet s 7 year old daughter who is bed ridden Louisa knows what it s like to miss school due to illness and be kept in bed and wants to help this child Louisa also has a secret shes trying to hold onto Emmet is dealing with his own demons I enjoyed how the story unfolded, seeing Louisa standing up for herself and how she deals with working and Ellie I like how Linda worked through some of the problems in a sensitive way I also found it interesting learning about the depression and how some had to survive on very little variety My mother is now 92 and lived through the depression in Australia and now hates pumpkin as it was one vegetable that was in abundance and eaten most meals that as an adult she hates it A good read and I look forward to the final book in the series.

Illness takes away Louisa Morgan s dream of marriage and a house full of children, when she hears that little Ellie Hamilton is in a body cast following a fall from a tree, she puts aside her hurt to tutor the child Her best laid plans come to a quick halt when cunning little Ellie refuses to work Widower Emmett Hamilton tries to protect everyone he cares about, but somehow they still keep getting hurt Ellie is no exception Riddled with guilt, the doting father gives her anything she wants Realizing that Ellie won t do the reading assignment because she can t read further adds to his feelings of helplessness When he teams up with Louisa to tutor Ellie, they are both forced to stop relying on their own strength and confront their fears or risk losing their chance at happiness While the plot is a bit predictable, the characters are endearing This is a great feel good read with a meaningful underlying message.
