I don t normally recommend books, because what I may like, and what touches me personally may be very different from how the same book will affect someone else. This book is definitely one whose effects may vary greatly from person to person because it goes beyond the boundaries of the book, and reaches out to put description to emotion Although three of the four main characters are fictional, their stories come from real stories told by survivors of the first atomic bomb ever dropped on a population This bomb was given the name Little Boy and it is from the bomb s perspective that this book is written However this is done in a way that I was not expecting It dwells on emotion and feelings which the bomb is able to observe, almost indecently, rather than from a practical second by second physical recollection This book explores how circumstances mold emotions and how sometimes the unexpected can happen because of these feelings.Maya is such a young writer, but is amazingly observant, melding physical sensations with emotional ones She mainly stays away from the politics of the time, but gives enough information so that you get a feeling of how each country s propaganda affected the decisions of both their military and civilians at that time. This book also makes you want to learn about something that perhaps you thought you knew enough about It has led me to a number of documentaries on the subject and definitely seeped into my thoughts and even dreams while I read it I plan on reading it again, as I know that I will get from this book the second time around.
