The Knights Broken Promise (Lovers and Legends, #1)

The Knights Broken Promise (Lovers and Legends, #1) Knight s Broken PromiseEnjoyed this book very much Love the characters Love this period in history Always enjoy reading books from Gaelic and Celtic times. I was super nervous when I got this book out as it s based in Scotland like I am Sometimes when it s not Scottish authors writing about a historical romance it doesn t always work. Black Robert The Most Feared Of All King Edward S Men When An English Knight Approaches The Charred Ruins Of Her Sister S Scottish Village, Gaira Of Clan Colquhoun Knows Better Than To Trust This Fierce Looking Man Yet, Struggling To Set Her War Shaken World To Rights, She Has Little Choice Robert Of Dent Will See Her To Safety He Can Promise Nothing Never Again Will He Make A Vow Like The One He Broke Years Ago, Even Though Gaira S Fierce Resilience Makes Him Long To Protect Her But What Will Happen When Gaira Discovers Exactly Who Robert Is A new author for me Received her first three books of the Lovers and Legends series as Christmas gifts Have enjoyed this book very much Interesting characters set in a time when the world was changing too fast. I won this book from the goodreads giveaways Usually im not a fan of romance books and wouldn t sign up to try to win one, But the setting war torn scottland and the history compelled me to give this one a try, and im so glad i did I loved it the characters are the single greatest part of the story, they are all so unique and well developed, i felt like i knew them all pretty quickly Not only is the story completely satisfying, also, but it s got some humor in there as well The main character Gaira to be specific, who curses hilariously Having 2 kids of my own, i also have to say that the young children were written wonderfully too Bottom line, the story is satisfying and entertaining, the characters are well developed and motivated, and the setting is totally enchanting. During the reign of King Edward there existed a knight whose reputation earned him the name of Black Robert because of his deeds towards the Scots After hearing of a carnage by some troops of the king s at Doonhill near Dumfries, Robert of Dent decides to go there to investigate the truth of the matter Meanwhile, Gaira of Clan Coloquhoun has already arrived at Doonhill in the hopes of escaping an arranged marriage planned by her brother only to find everyone slaughtered and the village burned to the ground Her sister, her sister s husband, gone Where is their daughter Finding the toddler under a bureau, Gaira sets out to bury the dead at night so that the other children whom she s discovered don t see them when Robert of Dent arrives She doesn t know who he is but forces him to help her bury the dead, then take them to the nearest village and then decides he needs to help her take them home Of course nothing goes quite like it s planned and Robert is recognized, her betrothed showed up to claim her and upon arrival on clan lands, the brothers want to kill him What made this a great story is the backstory of each main character They should have been mortal enemies but circumstances forced them together and Robert saw something in Gaira that he admired Gaira, meanwhile, didn t know who he really was but saw a man she could depend upon Even under adverse conditions, they were there for each other and when the truth came out, it didn t matter Set against King Edward s campaign against the Scots, this is an entirely believable story. Scottish borders, Gaira of Clan Colquhoun comes upon the village she was fleeing to to find it in ruins and only a few damaged children remaining, when Robert of Dent also comes upon the village, while he investigates what soldiers under his command have done, he offers to help her get to safety Romance ensues. Not a bad read. You can find my review at Black Robert The most feared of all King Edward s men I actually read In Debt to the Enemy Lord first But I liked Robert Aye I love it when they are a bit of mysterious And I could not not read this book with an accent. This was the first book I have had the pleasure to read from author Nicole Locke and I absolutely loved it I will definitely be reading her other books The Knight s Broken Promise is the first book in the Lovers and Legends Series Robert of Dent is an English Knight fighting for King Edward in Scotland Gaira of Clan Colquhoun is a young scottish woman who has run away from her betrothed to her sisters village Robert and Gaira meet in the massacred village of Gaira s sister and oh my what a meeting This story was so much than just a romance Nicole did a wonderful job of pulling you into the story and I honestly had a hard time putting it down I absolutely adored Robert Gaira as a couple, two people who start out as enemies but under extremely harsh and unusual circumstances end up helping each other and eventually fall in love With fascinating secondary characters, drama, humor and of course a fabulous romance this has everything you could want in a book Highly recommend and look forward to reading the rest of the books in this series

Nicole first discovered romance novels hidden in her grandmother s closet.Convinced that hidden books must be better, Nicole greedily read them It was only natural she should start writing them but now not so secretly. If she isn t working on the next book in her historical series, she can be reached at NicoleLocke.com, Facebook and on Twitter NicoleLockeNews
