There is a coincidence.I finished the book during the World Cup and whilst I am writing the review,Mr.Kapadia is commentating.Anyways, coming to the book. Its a collection of tales told by the grand old man of Indian football. It is obvious that some parts have been stretched and some have been cut short. But anyways, its a only of a kind history book of Indian football and is a near perfect account of the beautiful game in India.

I have always been a fan of the commentary and analysis of Mr Kapadia I first came to know about him during the coverage of FIFA WC 2006 and was pleasantly surprised to see an Indian analyzing and commenting so beautifully in a Football game and from then on I started following his columns in papers.Like many other Indians, I was also of an opinion that India is a predominantly Cricket loving country I had heard a story about how India almost made it to the 1950 World cup but that was the extent of my knowledge of Indian football This book is like an encyclopedia of Indian football The division of chapters is really good and presents the story of Indian football in a brilliant way Writing style of Mr Kapadia is also very good You can get a sense of his passion and love for the game from his writing and that makes the book so interesting.Only thing which I found a little lacking was the use of too many stats in the story which breaks the rhythm a little bit It gets a bit difficult to follow in the middle due to a bombardment of facts and figures Apart from that, it is a masterpiece on Indian football and a must read for any football fan.

4.5 Novy Kapadia knows all about the Indian story of the beautiful game, and he narrates every story worth listening to If you are a football fan and is desperate to know how we the Indians were one of the best and yet lost it by sheer negligence along with illogical worship of cricket, then this is the book.

  4. says:

    A Bible on Indian football.
